Description: | This Rioja comes in a wire caged bottle, numbered label and looks every part more expensive than it is. The wine has a very deep, dark blood red colour, and a strong aroma of black fruits. This can be expected from the ‘reserva’ status of the Rioja which means it has had at least 3 years in oak barrels. To drink, Baron Amarillo Rioja Reserva 2006 is full bodied, with strong berry and stewed plums flavour. Not the smoothest of Rioja, it is still nicely balanced without too much overpowering alcohol. Not lingering at the finish, the flavour dissipates very quickly but leaves a dry taste. |

Comments: | Aldi has a reputation for cheap products and being at the bottom end of the market for food. This however has not stopped them stocking an ever-changing range of good wines at even better price value. Don’t expect to find a regular stream of the same labels; they seem to change every week. You can expect to pick up reasonable drinking wine for about half of main shop price, and most is packaged in a manner that makes it look much more expensive. I would suggest guy one of what you may like and then buy as many as you can if you like it. | |
