Region: | France, Burgundy |
Grapes: | Pinot Noir |
Description: | This wine from Florence Heresztyn in the Côtes de Nuits region of Burgundy displays dark berry-like fruitiness and a delicate touch of spicy oak. It is made from a small vinyard that produces wine from 65 year old vines, to give a berry and raspberry taste to a deep, complex and lingering medium bodied wine. This allows them to display the ‘Vieille Vignes’ mark on the wine label, so it is a rare find at the current price. |
Price: | £26.99 |
ABV: | 13.5% |
Closure: | Cork |
Source: | Waitrose |
Occasion: | Lamb |
Comments: | Gevrey-Chambertin wines are exclusively red and almost always made from Pinot Noir grapes. Widely regarded as being the most full-bodied of the region, the village’s wines have a particular intensity of color and rich, deep flavors that have earned Gevrey the title ‘King of Burgundy’. The Waitrose description of the wine states ‘really classy’ which I assume is a not-so-classy way of saying that it stands out from the crowd and is worth drinking. |
