Sometimes on your travels around London you just need a break – a nice cup of coffee, bit of cake and then get back on your way again.
I stopped by the Ice Skating rink at Somerset House, and then went into the magnificent building itself which houses an exclusive range of designer stores that are open to the public until Jan 6th 2013. I really needed a coffee; a good strong black, no messing cup of coffee. Just past the entrance door to the pop-up boutiques in this massive mansion of a building was the Lavazza Lounge. My prayers answered, there was coffee cakes and seats.
I ordered a large strong black coffee straight away; my partner of the day being indecisive so I wanted to get in first. The hostess cheerfully went through the options they had, the beans, chocolates mix, toppings and all the other things you can add to coffee. By the time mine arrived my partner had decided – coffee with frothy milk and chocolate topping. A minute later hers arrived too, and we both could sit down and relax for a bit.
The room was spacey and open, filled with the scented aromas of coffee and chocolate. People ebbed and flowed in and out, often in time with the skating rink emptying and filling, so seats were easy to come by if you chose your time well. The range of coffee, tea, chocolate or other drinks is enough to please anyone, and the prices are less than most regular coffee shops.
The Lavazza Lounge is open until the 6th Jan 2103 (when the Ice Rink closes). Make use of its calm surroundings, and grab the best coffee of the day.
