This Les Vins du Place Fitou 2010 pours a light ruby red, full of the aroma of black cherry, spices and herbs. In the mouth it is very light, almost watery in places, but full of light cherry and raspberry fruits. Let it swirl in the mouth and a nice undertaste of herbs and earthyness come through, but only in a delicate way that does not detract from the fruitiness. The finish is short but fruity, leaving raspberry and red cherry tastes.
The grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards in Southern France, which have matured under the Mediterranean sun, and this gives this wine its abundance of fruit flavours. Les Vins du Place Fitou 2010 is a young, fresh faced Fitou, and clearly aimed to be paired with the lighter barbecue or grilled meat meals. It is certainly not as full bodied or as heavy as you might expect a good Fitou to be. At its current price you could get a better, more traditional Fitou wine, so I would look out for price offers on this. If you can get it for under £6 then I think you have a bargain. |
