Description: |
Pours a very dark colour, with just the lightest aroma of chocolate and coffee. Very smooth and light, but weak to begin with, then moving more to a chocolate milkshake flavour with a hint of coffee. None of the warming taste you might expect from and alcoholic beer at 6.5% abv, it lingers lightly with light chocolate flavour, more sweet than bitter. It is just like a milkshake, it is filling but leaves you wanting. In this case, not for more of the same.
Someone said it is like Baileys without the brandy. If this had been presented as a chocolate beer cocktail, almost as the small 330cl bottle hints at, I would not have been disappointed. Its lack of body and warmth left me disappointed as a Porter. As such I would say it would make a good dessert or digestif, which is exactly how the food pairing would be recommended. Maybe I need to revisit this one with a different approach when tasting. Meantime Brewery produce a range of beers from their London Brewery, and I look forward to trying some of the others. They even offer Brewery visits so you can look round and learn all about the brewing history they have. |
