I was invited to an Italian wine tasting and food matching by Enotria World wine at Assaggetti in Haymarket, London. Assaggetti is on the corner of Haymarket and although there were hordes of tourists milling around outside looking for theatre tickets, once inside, I was greeted by welcoming staff into a quiet and calm environment. The wine tasting was downstairs which is a large, open but friendly area and was ideally suited to the event.
I was greeted by Luca Soldo of Enotria Wines, the wine importers, who explained his choice of wines to taste and how he had come to be involved in promoting the wines of Italy.
A few others were there already and this allowed for decent conversation about the wines and food to be held, enhanced by our hosts enthusiastic banter explaining each wine and its particular background.
With each wine we were served a suitably match food, and this helped to identify the strengths and unique propositions for each wine.
The wines sampled were:
Lambrusco di Sorbara Vecchia Modna, Chiarli, nv
Vermetino Villa Solais
Nero d’Avola Plumbago Planeta
Valpolicella Ripasso Secco Bertani
Birbet Brachetto, Negro, 2011
After nearly three hours of good wine, food and company the evening drew to a close. Everyone had a really good time and I can add my thanks here for what was a good event in a very nice and suitable location.
