Bernard Magrez Tivoli Medoc 2004

Bernard Magrez Tivoli Medoc 2004 Back

Description: Situated in the communes of Saint-Christoly and Valeyrac, the Magrez Tivoli vineyard benefits for the superb “Crus du Médoc” terroir. The wine is made from 40 year old vines that grow in the gravelly soil; each grape is harvested individually by hand in the tradition way to ensure that only the best make it into this wine. Fermentation takes place in small wooden vats and then the wine is aged on the lees for 18 months in new French oak barrels before bottling. On opening the bottle, it pours a deep dark red, and has the wonderful aroma of red fruit, warm spice and oak. Leave it for 10 minutes to breathe, the aroma tormenting you until the first sip. Full of oaked flavour, this wine has a full body, smooth with continuous discovery of flavours, from tree bark, to dark plums, warming spices and red fruits. The finish is almost a continuation of the tasting, without any tannins or noticable final flavours coming in. This wine is simply magnificent.

Production of this wine is small like the greatest Burgundy Crus, (only 7000 bottles a year) but this reflects the passion and care that goes into producing this finest of Médoc wine. I can only say I have been lucky to drink it.

The Bernard Magrez Tivoli Médoc 2004 has won numerous awards including:
Bronze Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2007
Silver Medal at the International Wine Challenge 2007
Silver Medal by Decanter Word Wine Awards October 2007

I had this wine over lunch at the Mango Tree London, where the food was every bit as good to really bring the best out of the wine.
