Castello di Montegiove Elicious Umbria Rosso 2009

Description: Blended from Montelpulciano and Sagrantino grapes grown in the Castle vineyards, this wine is an intense dark red, with an aroma that hints of toasted almonds, plum and cherry. The wine is aged for 18 months in French Oak, then for 12 months in the bottle, and this gives the body a smooth, elegant and complex taste that is also mellow and satisfying.

This is an upmarket wine that could easily be drunk on its own due to its smoothness, but also develops its flavor alongside strong red meat.

The name Elicious comes from the epithet of the God of Lighting, Jupiter Elicious.

Castello di Montegiove is a 1300 hectare farm and vineyard nestled in the Umbrian hills. Built in 1281, it is at a height of 627m above sea level, which today lets it produce extremely fine wines of distinctive character and quality. Many of the vines grow on the slopes of the Umbrian valley, which has a microclimate giving good ventilation and consistent cool temperatures. Numerous young wines from the Montegiove are able to be kept for years, although good enough to drink right now.
