This superb Croatian Wine – Plavac Vinogorje Pelješac Kvalitetno Vino 2011 pours a lovely bright ruby colour. It has a soft aroma of plum and dark cherry, and a slightly earthy hint. Initially in the mouth the flavour is light black cherry and redcurrent, almost watery, but then the taste starts to develop and the earth and old oak flavours come through. At the finish, a nice full flavour is found that fills the mouth, and then maintains a growing oak dryness after the swallow. Definitely not your ordinary wine, this is one that really impresses.
The label on the bottle if of a mule. Maybe it is a hidden message to watch out for the dry kick at the finish! It has a low ABV at 11.9%, but that does not detract from its full flavour and pleasing finish. The “Kvalitetno Vino” part of the name means it is classified as a Quality Wine, and places this in the second tier of a three tier classification system. |
