London’s favourite American diner hangout, The Diner, is bringing classic American diner dishes to the capital with a brand new menu launching this month. Boasting the finest ingredients from both sides of Atlantic, the new offering will roll out across London and features a carefully created selection of unbeatable favourites.
RISE AND SHINE
The new breakfast menu is better, bigger and tastier than ever! Highlights include ‘Eggs Blackstone’; a twist on the classic brunchNtime favourite Eggs Benedict, with grilled tomatoes, crispy bacon and plated with fruit and tater tots, showing us Brits how the Americans do it. The whipped honey butter that’s served with The Diner’s pancakes is another game changer, and you have to try the ‘Cholla French Toast’, a revolutionary take on the classic, now made with thick slices of Jewish Cholla bread soaked in The Diner’s house made custard.
ALL DAY MENU
Kick things off with ‘Frito Pie’, a classic US tailgate dish. Tuck into a slashed bag of Fritos corn chips loaded with treats. Chris Todd, the man who runs The Diner and coNcreator of the menu alongside Head Chef Austin Latimer says “We first tried this during a trip through Chicago in July 2013. We were served it in a great tap room where they called them ‘Walking Tacos’. Back in the UK, we developed the dish putting The Diner’s stamp on it before introducing it to our new menu.”
Next up try the ‘Chilaquiles’; tortilla strips layered with guacamole, tomatillo salsa, fried eggs and queso fresco. Tomatillo is a staple Mexican fruit that works amazingly in this tex-mex inspired dish. Chris says “I had this in Mexico 10 years ago and while staying in Miami last Christmas noticed that this was now being served there.”
Spice things up with The Diner’s fresh new burger – the ‘Red Hot’; a 6oz patty with tomatillo salsa, Monterey Jack cheese and jalapeños on a Rinkoff’s sesame bun. And let’s not forget the Red Velvet Pancakes; back by popular demand. Chris says “I first had this in 2013 whilst in Philadelphia, where we noticed endless customers ordering them for brunch. We’ve been perfecting them ever since.”
THE STORY BEHIND THE MENU
Showcasing the very best in all American dining, The Diner team spent 6 months travelling across the USA, visiting the coolest neighbourhoods in Miami, Chicago, Bushwick and Williamsberg to explore, taste and draw inspiration for new dishes.
The new menu offers the ultimate US-UK collaboration, aiming to reinspire, reimagine and reinvigorate classic American dishes for the UK consumer. Meat lovers will be left drooling after tasting The Diner’s new patty; after the gruelling task of blind tasting 100 burgers from a whole host of suppliers, a final delicately balanced recipe was given The Diner’s stamp of approval. Using handNselected cuts of British meat, minced daily with freshly baked soft, squishy baps created exclusively by famous Finkoff’s bakery in East London, the dream combination of burgery goodness is finally a reality!
Regulars will be spoilt with a whole host of new sides including ‘sweet potato poutine with bacon gravy’ and ‘waffle fries’. Those looking for a lighter bite can enjoy dishes from The Diner’s ‘Lighter’ menu, which includes a London first: ‘Vegan Benedict’, made with mushrooms, spinach, chickpea patties, tomato, avocado and sesame sauce.
For the cherry on the top, try The Diner’s exclusive new dessert: Rinkoff’s ‘Nutella Marshmallow Crodough’; a fried croissant/donut hybrid made fresh every day and served with a scoop of hazelnut ice cream. Last but not least, enjoy your meal with The Diner’s fresh new beer menu.
With everything from sit down feasts to tailgate style eating, The Diner guarantees you can enjoy honest, original American food made fresh each day.
