With the Winter season upon us, now is the time a lot of mulled wine and hot ciders start to appear on the market. This Rekorderlig Winter Cider from Sweden is sold by the bottle, but also in small heated vats in good pubs, so I felt I had to try one. It is a blend of late summer apples infused with cinnamon and vanilla, to give it the very traditional aromas of the Christmas season. I choose to have it heated (well it is winter!) Served hot in a branded Rekorderlig glass along with a slice of orange, the vanilla and cinnamon aromas were obvious, but much lighter than you would get with a mulled wine. To the taste, hot sweet apples and cinnamon; a few seconds later, with the cinnamon receding, the vanilla comes through and last nicely until the finish. This is a very pleasant and light drink, truly seasonal, and appeals to someone who may not want a mulled wine. More a one-off drink than an evening session on a cold night, this is a good welcoming starter drink.
The label says – “good heated or good over Ice”. I didn’t try it cold, but I think that unless you really wanted a vanilla cider you would find more excitement in a traditional cider. |
