Description: |
This Torres Sangre de Toro Catalunya 2011 pours a deep ruby colour, with rich complex aromas of spice, packed with blackberry fruits. In the mouth is is full of dark fruits, blended smoothly and working together, with elegant flavours of liquorice and dust on the palate. It has a nice smooth and warming finish. It is a great socialising wine, as it offers old world class done in a slightly new world style, offering up more fruit with minimal ageing.
It needs to be served at room temperature of at least 18C, as stated on the bottle, to really bring out the rich fruit flavours. Some of the bottles also have a small black bull hung on the neck, to show the fact that this wine is “Sangre de Toro”, or blood of the bull. However, it is not really a reference to the bull, but to Bacchus, the Roman God of Wine, who was also know as “son of the bull”. In marketing terms, it’s all bull. Torres have vineyards around the world in exciting wine regions such as California, Chile and even China, but their heartland is in Catalunya in Spain. They have produced great wines from their winery in Vilafranca del Penedès since 1870, which is where this Torres Sangre de Toro Catalunya 2011 comes from. |
