Wetherspoon pubs across the UK are now hosting Mexican Monday – offering a choice of Mexican food every Monday. And as the nearest Wetherspoons to me is The Catherine Wheel, only a few minutes walk away, I felt I had to try it.
You can choose from a Burrito (A soft flour tortilla, filled with brown rice, cheese, bell peppers, pinto and black beans, red onion, tomato. With tortilla chips, guacamole, salsa, sour cream chilli peppers), Nachos (Tortilla chips topped with cheese, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, chilli peppers) or Naked Burrito (Salad leaves, Mexican-style rice, pico de gallo, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, chilli peppers).
You can then fill or top your chosen meal with one of five items; five-bean chilli with Quorn, chilli con carne, BBQ pulled pork, chicken breast strips, shaved rib-eye steak.
A BBQ pulled pork and cheese quesadilla is also on the menu; a char-grilled tortilla, filled with BBQ pulled pork and cheese. With Mexican-style rice , guacamole, salsa, sour cream, chilli peppers.
Side orders of mini nachos as well as tortilla chips and salsa complete the Mexican Monday menu.
Our meal for three came to £22 which included extra drinks and sides; A real bargain price and definitely to be repeated. Happy eating all round!
The meals at the vast majority of Wetherspoon pubs are priced at £5.99 (including an alcoholic drink) and £4.99 (including a soft drink).
Some pubs are serving the meals (with an alcoholic drink) at £6.99 and those (without an alcoholic drink) at £5.99.
The mini nachos are £2.49. tortilla chips and salsa £1.49.
There is an additional charge of £1 for the shaved rib-eye steak.
